Below is an extensive list of local accommodation in every price range. Unfortunately there is not much nightlife in Bagan. This ancient Asian City has a excellent hotel and resort infrastructure, it was not always so, only by the midst of the 199X the government got aware of this and granted several foreign companies (mainly Chinese) licenses to build and run them as joint ventures.

This became a very successful hotel and resort business model because most of people coming to explore the ancient city are culture oriented foreigners who are able to spend quite some money, that's not cheap stuff.

This hotels, resorts, guesthouses etc. are almost always a positive surprise, the area has the highest density of excellent accommodations in the country. Not only the high end hotel have everything needed plus a good service, even the mid range and budget sector is quite ok.  One subject should be kept in mind, since the electricity supply is real bad

(government matter) the high end houses at Bagan Myanmar have generators which take over when the electricity drop, most of the lower priced houses don't have their own generator.

The government tries at least to supply electricity during evening and night which works quite ok. Most have restaurants and the Golf Resort has (as the name indicates) even a golf club just beside the buildings. All high end lodges have a good swimming pool and usually a garden for the dinner around.

One of the best hotels is the "Tharabar Gate Hotel"

When you come in with a flight and have no booking yet just look around in the arrival hall there are plenty of tour guides and each of them has a direct connection to accommodations which means to get a reasonable one anytime. 

A good idea could be to take a lodge close to the Irrawaddy

and use one of the restaurants around, it is a unforgettable impression to dine with a Irrawaddy view. For entertainment they have some acrobatic and dance show. If you are a guy and want something special ask your guide. In general dont do Bagan without a guide male or female.

They are relatively cheap and they show you what you won't find in the guidebooks and keep in mind you are there withing a time limit with them you will see at lest 3 times more as without them.
